Harriet Miers-Cronyism At It's Best

Before I start let me just say that if by some crazy chance I become The President of the United States I will practice cronyism too. So be nice to me and I will make sure you get that cushy job you've always wanted!

Of course I'm only joking...sorta. As much as I would like to appoint all my boys to important positions just to hear them curse out reporters and get busted with interns I can't do that. Not if I want to be viewed as a competent leader. George Bush doesn't seem to care how he is viewed. He's putting his homies in position and he really doesn't care what you or anybody else has to say about it. George Bush is a gangsta. Plain and simple.

Enter Harriet Miers. She's the latest Supreme Court nominee. I don't think most people realize the danger of appointing this particular woman to the Supreme Court. She has been chosen to be on the highest court in the land simply because she's Dubya's homegirl. She has never been a judge in any court, although that's not a constitutional requirement to become a judge. She has never been elected to any position other than City Council. She has never publicly taken a stand on anything. What she is, really, is a lady with a law degree from an undistinguished law school, who has never battled for anything important outside of her local Texas home.

Don't get me wrong, she might be the nicest lady in the world.There is no question Ms. Miers is bright. There is a question, however, as to whether she is smart enough and influential enough to bring argument to the court, that is, fine enough to help settle the major issues of our time.

I do not believe the president of the United States when he says that he does not question Ms. Miers or her thoughts about abortion, single-sex marriage, the Voting Rights Act, the right to vote, states’ rights, the doctrine of separate but equal, the death penalty, and on and on and on. Do you think the good ol boy network won't try to do everything possible to overturn any ruling that has helped blacks and other minorities.?!

Don't trust this woman. She's smart enough to know she doesn't deserve this job which means she's going to do any and everything possible to help her homie GWB out if she gets the job.

The really sad part about all of this is the fact that The Supreme Court is a lifetime position. Once she's in there that's it and there's really not a lot we can do to stop it.
