Hip Hop Responds
As I watch the news I am more and more saddened and shocked by the devastation left by Hurricane Katrina. Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama are in desperate need of help! Hey Mr. Bush I understand you're on vacation but this has went too far. Yesterday I said that hip hop performers weren't what we needed in this situation. Well perhaps THE KING was wrong. I've heard that P. Diddy and Jay-Z have donated a million dollars a piece and are providing clothes from the Sean John and Rocawear clothing lines to the victims. James Prince the CEO of Rap-A-Lot Records has opened a shelter in Houston for people who need a place to stay. Master P who is from N.O. and who is missing his uncle, father-in-law, and sister-in-law has formed an organization to provide shoes, clothing and essential items such as baby food and diapers. BET has also prepared a live telethon with some of the biggest acts in music scheduled to perform to raise money. This is all GREAT but where is the federal government? If Jigga and Diddy have already sprung into action where is Bush and Cheney?!
President Bush is urging patience. He might be right on some level. This Hurricane has effected 4 states and it's going to take billions of dollars and many years to recover from this. The only problem I have with that statement is the fact that Bush undercut flood control funding for the city of New Orleans! Yeah you won't hear about that on Fox News but it's the truth. He's also still walking his little dog and didn't even leave his cozy little Crawford Texas home until two days after these people had lost everything! That's right two days! He was in NY after the towers fell so fast that debris was still falling. But that was Manhattan and a lot of people with money were effected.
New Orleans is and always has been a very poor city. Over 100,000 people in the city didn't drive vehicles BEFORE the Hurricane and yet some have criticized those people for not leaving. Ridiculous. And now there are reports of murders and rapes INSIDE the Superdome. We have got to get those people help soon!
I've just heard that the "good" people of Washington D.C. are sending buses to the effected areas and bringing people back to stay at the DC Armory. Which brings up another question. Why haven't they tried to house and help the numerous homeless people right here in D.C.? It just goes to show you that a lot of things that could be done to help the poor and disenfranchised before a tragedy strikes simply isn't done because the powers that be simply do not care.

Bush ended his vacation early. I believe the next day he went to N.O.
He did? I didn't see him down at the SuperDome comforting people and vowing to get them help. Did you? Even if he did come back to D.C. he hasn't done enough in my humble opinion.
Naw, he did not get the plane. He just flew over it.
Need I say more...
GP is it safe to say that you feel like he has done all he can do?
I really don't have enough information at the moment to give you a definite answer, but from my personal viewpoint, no. However, this is the most costly devastation in U.S history according to a National Geographic News article. So I would presume that he would be doing all he can, knowing that he is under the entire nation's scrutiny.
GP you are a very optimistic chica. I can dig it. Hopefully you're right.
You know Ddot, I have been in an extremely somber mood for the last four days. I mean, I can barely do any work. All day I am clicking on website after website trying to find some kind of information on progress. You know? I am so stressed out. Monday my family and I are going to the local shelter to find a family to sponsor. Most likely a woman and a small child. That would definitely help relieve some of the distraught I am experiencing right now. I am a very emotional person. Like I do not know anyone that actually lives in the four states but I am so upset. Its like the money donations does not appease my saddness. It feels like September 11th all again.
GP I feel you. It really is sad. And nothing is going to take that feeling away unfortunately. But it's good to see that you are being proactive! Keep reaching out to help and remember after every dark night there is a bright day!
GP I think you are eroding my cynicism, arrogance, and overall grumpiness...STOP IT!
Really? That's a good thing isn't it.
No GP it's not a good thing! My arrogance and overall bad disposition is what keeps them coming back! Sheesh!
Okay. We will make sure that you regain all those "wonderful" qualities.....Here is a question ( I made this up two weeks ago and I like it): If the entire land on earth was expected to catch on fire/ or some form of disaster would you seek refuge at the bottom of the ocean floor or would you go to space. Now, this is not a scientific question, but more of a personality/preference question. You understand?....Like if you were to go the ocean floor you will be in a submarine and a spacecraft in you choose to go to space. I hope you understand what I am trying to ask because I don't feel like explaining it further.
Good question GP. I guess there would be pros and cons to both. Hmmm...I gues I'd go with the ocean floor. Because even if I go to the moon and the entire Earth blows up then I'd just be stuck in space and dies anyway. Does that make sense? beats me but that's my answer. What's yours?
great post Brown Eye!
Okay if you go to the ocean floor you will be part of the earth when it blows up...lol. That's why I said if the "land" on earth caught on fire. But I personally would go to space because I would not feel comfortable being on the bottom of the ocean floor. That is so scary to me. I would rather be looking down from space. Anyway it's a silly question. Its just kind of cool to find out what someone would do in that situation. Like choosing between going to space or going to the bottom of the ocean.
I your name bwneye. So cute.
Why did we say Brown eye like she got one eye or something?...lol
You know what Ddot, I believe you think your all that because you have had 327 profile visits!
C'mon GP of course I'm all that!!!
This is such a sad situation, and I have always said that the U.S. spends a lot of time trying to point out and clean up other folks problems, yet we don't clean up our own backyards.
btw...thanks for stopping by my site
my sympathy goes to your people affected by the hurricane...
i'm from singapore
Trying harder is all we can ask for Brown Eye but don't let it happen again!!! :)
I'm glad to hear that you are helping out and not just talking the talk. Keep it up!
I have relatives and friends in the NO area - a tragedy, and by next year, there will be plenty of blame to share from all national and local gov't officials.
unfortunately I agree with you leesa...
