My beloved UNC Tarheels were upset in the NCAA Tournament by George Mason University so I am not in the best of moods. All we had to do was beat GMU and then Wichita State was just sitting there waiting to get beat. And since George Mason is a local team around here that's all anybody is talking about. Last night Leon Harris and the Channel 7 News team started there brodcast off like this "DO YOU BELIEVE IN MIRACLES!?" Screw you Leon Harris.

They might not get a lot but to say they get nothing, that's not accurate.

Things in Chapel Hill were relatively calm though, I went to the Smith Center and balled with some friends afterwards (i've got hookups) and htat helped get rid of some of the pain.
Rell I'll have to do some research on that. I've never heard of NCAA players getting paid. I'm sure there's a lot of under the table stuff going on but not NCAA sanctioned. But I could be wrong. I'll let you know my findings.
I was at Ruby Tuesdays when we lost and everybody starts cheering and clapping. I walked out to my car and loaded my gun and huffed and puffed before just driving away...

no it's not under the table or anything (trust me on this one, this is what I did last year after I graduated and now that i'm back in graduate school) they get spending money, legally, that is sanctioned by the NCAA.
For example during the tournament UNC players get 50 dollars per day for "food" even though their meals are provided for them.
also they get money during road trips as well, not sure of the exact amount, but while it's not a great deal of it, they do get some.
Add into that the fact that they receive ALL their meals for free, all their books for free and are issued all kinds of clothes.

Well I guess that's not as bad as some people make it seem. They are still getting robbed but at least they are getting a little sum sum.

Rell.. u are right.. as a former collegiate scholarship athlete recipient.. you do get a stipend..and it has VASTLY increased since back when I got one.. and I was on the track team.. the guys on football and basketball got WAY MORE.. and pretty much if u were on a high grossing team you got more.. but anywhoo..
NCAA sanctioned stipends are there they don't get that money ya'll are talking about nah.. they get free room & board, tuition, books, stipend and a lot of damn popularity that helps them get up in the ranks of the big timers.... THATS A LOT it ain't cheap.. think what it would cost 1 to attend a major university (out of state tuition)and add the cost of books, room & board, meal plan, spending money etc.. they making out better than most folks in the real world with a real job!

i was just watching a real sports story on Matumbo this weekend i didnt know about all that had happened to him: gave all his money to his home country, a failed assasination attempt on him while there, only got back to the us as a political refugee, domestic problems, and a car accident, all his money gone, living as a pauper....
Yeah N1S that was Manute Bol. His situation is pretty bad. I think some of his former teammates have in the past or are presently halping him out. Most notably Charles Barkley.
Goddess you think it's ok that the coaches make millions of doallars and the schools make millions of dollars but the kids get a scholarship worth about 30 grand and a dorm room and 500 bucks a month if they are lucky? I think the system needs to be tweaked a bit.
LOL @ myself, why i get Matumbo out of Manute Bol,....yeah I know they did a NBA camp and all the proceeds went to helping with his medical bills from the car accident....
