Carolina Coach...

Roy Williams, who followed a national championship season at North Carolina by leading an inexperienced team to the NCAA Tournament, was selected coach of the year by The Associated Press on Friday.

Williams, who won the award in 1992 at Kansas, is the second coach to win it at two schools, joining Eddie Sutton, who won at Arkansas in 1978 and Kentucky in 1989. He is the seventh coach to win it more than once, with UCLA's John Wooden the record holder at five times from 1967 to 1973.

The Tar Heels won the national title last season, Williams' second at his alma mater. The top seven scorers from that team either graduated or left early for the NBA and North Carolina wasn't even ranked in the preseason poll.

Led by freshman Tyler Hansbrough, the Tar Heels went 23-8 and finished second in the Atlantic Coast Conference. They lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to George Mason.

Roy Williams coached a crop of young players to the second round of the tourney.
Williams received 29 votes from the 72-member national media panel that selects the weekly Top 25. Jay Wright of Villanova had 15 votes to finish second in the balloting that was conducted before the NCAA Tournament. Bruce Pearl of Tennessee was third with 11 votes.

Williams is the second North Carolina coach to win the award, which was first given in 1967. Matt Doherty, whom Williams succeeded at Chapel Hill, won in 2001.

Tales from the light side:

Unfortunately, I have a ton of work to do so I'm only going to be here sporadically today.

However, just let me say this ... I hate this argument because I am a light complected BLACK woman and I have to defend myself to other Black people.

Guess what? In my experience white people see me as BLACK not a light-skinned BLACK woman. I'm not treated any better. I still get the shaft. I still get ignored in high-end department stores and I still get paid less than my white counterparts.

Most times I feel doubly discriminated against because other BLACK people treat me like doo-doo because "she think she cute!"

For the record, I don't think I'm cute because I'm light skinned. I know I'm fine because I just AM. It's all about the attitude not the skin tone.

A friend of mine (dark skinned) recently asked me if my son (light skinned) had a girlfriend yet. I said no and explained that my son has a difficult time talking to girls. My friend replied, "Because for so long his complexion got him by and he didn't have to speak." It was funny but it made me think. He also has a good attitude and knows he's fine but it's not his fault that these little fast girls give him so much attention and don't demand more from him than his looks.

Good Morning Everyone!

I am the lightest child my mother had, but my sister was ALWAYS given compliments on how beautiful she was. I never got those compliments growing up so I never really gave much thought to the skin color issue of lighter skinned girls are cuter than darker skinned ones.

You're just jealous because I'm cuter than you are.

lol@chele's "treating me like doo doo"

i didn't know folk still used that term. meanwhile, i get what you're saying. i know at times i feel as though lighter-skinned women get more play from guys than darker-skinned women do. that's my own issue and i've gotta work through it cuz you're right...we're all just black to everybody else.

I have the same problems being a lighskinned man I am mixed with other ethnic groups. I look Asian in the eyes. I have had all kinds of problems from darskin blacks especially. I feel that it is jealousy and other black people tell me this also that it is jealousy. I don’t consider myself that good looking although some people feel otherwise. I even wrote an essay on this subject about light skin and dark skin among blacks. I am not ashamed of being lightskin but it does create some problems because whites see me as black and blacks see me as mixed light skin. Sometimes I feel like an outKAST. Yes lightskin does attract females this true and lightskin women get more attention this is true but it is not the fault of light skin blacks.

To King,

WATCHOUT!

Dude! You keep writing post like this you go run the few females away whom you still have. I guess you are busy at work and you feel that if you are not going to participate the you will write a post that they will find boring. And this will keep them from participating with each other. Well you could lose your readership that way. Look at those who don't even come around anymore already. And this is with you on the blog participating, I just giving advice.

Get lost you little shit. The success of my blog is not based on how many people come here, how many comment, or how many of them are women. If I wanted 200 comments today I could've had them. The same goes for the rest of the week. You have no idea what you are talking about so keep your advice to yourself. And F5 every now and then since I changed the post awhile ago and you're still commenting on the old one. Now I have work to do and no time for your nonsense.

Chance just because you don't have many comments doesn't mean you don't have a lot of readers. My comment section has went down drastically but I still get 150-200 visits a day. So even though Ddot may have only fifteen active commenters, he could still have a lot of people reading his posts.

Well said Peach. Now let's be clear for anybody else with the wrong idea. I don't lose readers. Ever. People might not comment but they never leave me totally.

And who are you to think you can keep up with who visits my blog and who doesn't! LOL!

Have a good day G.B.!
