The Insider...

As most of you have noticed there is a new section on my page that features a Blogger of the Week or B.O.W. Last week's featured blogger was my friend Goddess who has been a Loyal Subject for quite some time now. She and I have some very interesting conversations about race and race relations. I told her a few weeks back that I would love to conduct an interview with her for my readers because I find the difference in how a white person sees certain things pretty interesting and I'm sure you will too. So this is 100% real.

The rule is she has to be brutally honest. I want to know what she would say in a room of her friends and nothing politically correct. Then on Tuesday I saw that she had ruffled some feathers over at GP's spot and so I knew it was time to get the ball rolling on this. Race is a touchy subject in America and I'm sure this will cause some emotional outbursts but let's try to keep everything in perspective and have a good discussion.

King: Have you ever in a fit of anger or when you thought no one was looking called a black person the "n" word?

Goddess: I have never called a black person the "N" word. My brother did once, in the presence of my mother. I felt his beating. She made him dissolve a bar of soap in his mouth, and took a belt to him. She asked him if he liked being beat. Because if that was the type of thinking he was going to have, maybe he should be sent to a slave camp to see how it feels. After that, I think I understood that it was not a word that we use to label someone. My brother has a habit of saying off color remarks. But he has no shame, he will say anything to anyone which he would say to anyone else. He got beat up a lot in high school because of this. My grandmother is not comfortable around black men that she does not know. She is 87 years old. Her whole life she was taught to not trust black men. She has admitted that she knows it is irrational, however, it is her instint at this point. She has, however, welcomed my black friends into her house and gotten to know them. But, if she sees a black man on the street, she gets stiff. My father used the "N" word around my daughter once. I told him if I ever heard him say it again, he would no longer be allowed to see his granddaughter, because I was not teaching her that word, and neither was he.

King: Does it bother you when some Black people use the word nigger?

Goddess: Yes, it bothers me that some black people use the "n" word. I find it offensive. If you don't want other people to use the word, you can't use it yourself. I don't want to be called a cracker, therefore, I would not call any other white person a cracker.

King: Ok. And what do you think when black people say that it's a difference in a white person saying it and a black person using it as a term of endearment? Or even that there's a difference in the word "nigga" and "nigger".

Goddess: Once, I was in a class, Consideration for Others, where we talked about this very thing. I asked how it was different, and a black female said that there was a difference in -a and -er. I told her there was no difference to me. I could say Fuck or fudge, but the meaning is the same. Then the concept of women calling each other "Ho" and "Whore" as endearing terms came up, and I said I don't agree with that either. Either the word is derogatory, or it isnt. You can not have it both ways.

King: What about the word stupid? You ever call someone stupid because they are stupid but then while laughing at something a friend said call them stupid and it means two different things?

Goddess: Have I ever used the word stupid? Yes. I have told someone to stop acting stupid. Or that they are acting stupid. Does it mean something different if you are laughing about it? Not really. It still means that you think they are stupid, or acting stupid.

King: So you've never used stupid to mean funny? I would say 100% of my black friends could use the word stupid to mean a person's mental state or that they are funny. So could this and the nigga/nigger thing be a case of "ebonics" and be something that everybody doesn't understand?

Goddess: It could be that I do not understand the use of the word. And I do not use "stupid" to mean funny. I use the word "silly". What is ebonics again? Oh yeah, didn't that come out of Oakland? Didn't someone say that it was genetic language? Didn't someone want Ebonics to be taught in lieu of English? Am I the only one who finds that absurd?

King: I don't think they wanted it taught in lieu of English but sometimes things get lost in translation so to speak. So do you feel there should be a Black History Month?

Goddess: I do feel that their should be a black history month to highlight the importance of contributions of Black Americans to our country. A time to regard the strength and the obstacles overcome by a group of people, to promote pride and instill the fact that you CAN overcome ANY obstacle thrown in your path.

King: So you support a Black History Month. Do you think their should be a White History Month? How do you feel about their being a channel called Black Entertainment. Do you think people would be upset if someone created a White Entertainment Channel?

Goddess: Well, the book answer to that is that EVERY day is White History Month. However, I think taking a moment to reflect on strong men and women of the Caucasion persuasion who have done things in order to help other races overcome the obstacles would not be a bad thing. It may actually open up some eyes on every spectrum of the color wheel. Black Entertainment does not bother me, we have Lifetime and Womans Entertainment and Mens Entertainment, however, I do think if there was a WHITE ENTERTAINMENT channel, that there would be an uproar from Black Leadership.

King: A lot of white people feel as if though Malcolm X was a racist. What are your thoughts on him being considered a "black leader"?

Goddess: Malcolm "X" believed in living seperatly, away from whites, correct? Well, if you go along with that viewpoint, why was Segregation, when instituted from White folks so horrible? Is it ok to have segregation if it is imposed by black leadership? I am not sure how I feel about him being considered a black leader if he believed that "Any means necessary" was his viewpoint.

King: Do you think a lot of black people blame whites or racism for their own downfalls?

Goddess: That is a loaded question. Some downfalls are because of racism. It would be ignorant to ignore that it does still exsist. But it would also be wrong to say that some black people do not fault white people for ghettos, poor education, poverty, and other issues. Just like it would be wrong to say that some white people do not blame blacks for the same issues.

I have to cut it short because I have a meeting to be go to in about 5 minutes. I will try to post the rest of the interview later or depending on how the discussion goes maybe tomorrow. Wait until you hear what she has to say about what happened during Hurricane Katrina! It's going to be good. Now go find some white people outside of Grant and Leesa so we can have a good discussion up in here!

i like the interview. i think the questions AND answers were thought thoroughly.. i dont take offense to anything that she says and dont see why anyone would b/c (1) they're HER OPINIONS (2) everything she states makes sense..

good post...

chele said...

So far so good. However, it really seems overly politically correct. No offense to Goddess, but I think I could have predicted every single one of her answers.

BK said...

interesting..I'm wit Chele.. I don't know Goddess nor have I ever read any of her writing but some of her answers do seem predictable.. *waiting on the rest of the interview and munching on popcorn*

TTD said...

is it safe to say that you could predict her answers b/c you kinda feel the same way?

Ddot the King said...

Hey they finally let me go. So nobody has a real issue with anything she has said so far? Interesting. Does anybody here NOT use the "N" word?

Rell said...

I know I usually am the serious one on here (and this is not saying I thought this about goddess) but when I read that all I could think about was a chappelle's show skit.

"Furman? Sounds like a racist to me. German, Ferman, Hitler... I bet he says nigger a lot"

"Mr. Chappelle, I'm sorry I can't say that I know if he does or not."

"I bet you can't, but as someone that says nigga lot, that nigga says nigger all the time"

LOL! Ok continue serious discourse and banter, while ignoring my insensitive chappelle-driven post.

TTD said...

LOL @ Rell

I use it! often.. but not as a term of endearement

NegroPino™ said...

I use it. ITs not a regular part of my vocabulary as some people's. Like they can't conduct a sentence without saying it. THat's where I draw the line. I think for hte most part she responded in ways to not offend people but at the same time give her opinion. Race is still a touchy subject in America. But i dont let it define me or my life. Everything that has happened to me is because of choices I have made, not on my skin tone. So its nobody fault but my own.

TTD said...

i went to Goddess' blog... she lied.. she does use the word STUPID to mean FUNNY...

"The one night I go out with my girlfriends, and we act silly stupid, but we always have fun." - from post "Quiet Weekend"

Now I don't like your post so much =(

TTD said...

pick another person to interview that won't lie and sugarcoat things

Ddot the King said...

So you're saying Goddess pulled a Mark Furman on me by saying she'd never used the word stupid but after Johnny "TTD" Cochran got on the case she found out that she did in fact use the word. Interesting. So is everybody in agreement that everything else that she said tainted now?

Lāā said...

I thought that the interview was her being PC.

I don't usually use the 'n' word unless I am boiling angry and it will be in a derogatory way.

TTD that was good research!

TTD said...

LOL @ video x.. she kinda reminds me of chance.. she could be a female version of chance

ok.. back to the post!

thanks laa!

If blacks use the word nigga they should use it in private among fellowe blacks or friends from another ethnicity. But use it in private but not in public.

Chance

Ddot the King said...

Chance I think we have the right to say it anywhere we choose to say it if we in fact shoose to say it. Why shouldn't we use it in public?

Drama Kween said...

goddess what's your view on interracial dating?

Rell said...

yea I'm not a big fan of ebonics either. I think it's, well, I'm not a big fan.

As far as nigga concerned, it's a word. nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga nigga, it only creates an emotional response if you let it.

TTD said...

i didnt say that you NEVER use the word stupid.. you said that you never use the word to equate funny.. and i didn't take your "silly stupid" comment to mean you considered yourself stupid/dumb b/c who would call themselves stupid? silly/crazy/funny - yes, but not dumb..

Kip said...

I wrote as essay titled the origins of black English Ebonics and History. I like black english and yes the school disrtict needs to be careful about teachings ebonics but they use it (ebonics) to teach standard english. So they are teaching standard english but ebonics as it's base.

Chance

Kip said...

To DDot,

Saying it in public gives other people from other ethnicities the right to say in public also then blacks get mad.

Chance

Drama Kween said...

ok let me rephrase my question have or would you date a black man???

TTD said...

well my bad (ebonics.. lol) but they asked u some questions.. please show us that you were being completely honest and answer them..

Kip said...

Interracial dating is KOOL! White women are not doormats they are just following their white culture and they are the same way with white men if you observe. Black people and other colored racial groups say this about white women because these colored racial groups and blacks come from cultures where women are often mistreated and have to act tough to cover up the way they feel about being mistreated by the men in their race. White men treat the average white woman like a queen.

Chance

Kip said...

Many Black women feel insecure about a white woman dating a black man black men are in high demand. I live in California and black men they have all kinds of women from diffrent racial groups dating them. Black women date interracially also.

Chance

TTD said...

no insecurities over here! date whoever makes you happy.. regardless of race/age/sex/etc..

Lāā said...

Thank you Angie, I concur.

Ddot the King said...

Chance based on your reasoning if I call my mother "mom" in public then everybody can call her that. Try again sir.

Shari said...

Good interview. King invited me over here for my perspective on things. I am white.

First off, I must be honest. I am not proud of this, but I was raised in a home with a very racist father. He used the "n" word A LOT. Usually children “believe” things they hear their parents say, and take on a lot of the behaviors their parents have as well. Thank God I never did. I think any form of hate is ugly….and you can see that ugliness in people. I saw that ugliness in my dad.

I never have and I never will use the “n” word, and take offense when I hear someone else use it. As far as using the “n” word as a term of endearment, again, I would never use it. But at the same time if I hear it used as a term of endearment, I do not take offense.

In your interview Goddess said “Well, the book answer to that is that EVERY day is White History Month.” And as I white person, I would completely agree with what Goddess said. I have commented on Goddess's blog before on my feelings about white people in general.

This country is all about the white person. It always has been. Fuck, look at when the white man started coming to this country. That whole “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness” crap makes me sick. The men who wrote that had slaves for God’s sake!!

Even today, in the year 2006, racism and discrimination is still a huge problem in this country. Hurricane Katrina made me sick. It’s hard for me to say this, but I believe if the hurricane hit a wealthy, white area of the country, you bet your ass help would have arrived sooner.

I know it must sound funny for a white chick to rip on white people, but I am not blind. I see how people are treated differently in this country because they are black, or gay, or a woman (women still aren’t treated as equals in the eyes of white men either) (And a note here, when I say “white man” or “white men”, I of course do not mean all white men. There are good white men out there.)

I believe very strongly that everyone should be treated as equals. I feel very strongly about gay rights, civil rights, and women’s rights. I could go on for days and days about this subject, but I won't. Just sharing some of my thoughts.

Thanks for inviting me over, King. :)

Kip said...

To DDOT,

I feel if it makes a black person comfortable then he or she can say nigga in public out here in california blacks not al but many use the word nigga in public.

TTD said...

i actually wasn't looking for something to make her look bad.. i just went to her blog b/c everyone was taking forever to comment! I read that line.. and was like, "didn't she just say.." and that changed my opinion of the post.. cause as you can see from the 1st comment.. i DID like it

Kip said...

It is understandable for people from other eethnicities to give politically correct answers. Because they want to keep the peace

In the first grade, after teaching us the basic letters, the teacher pointed to the countries on the world map and had each student attempt to pronounce a couple. Naturally, I got Niger and Nigeria. The teacher let me attempt both and then threw a fit about my racist remarks instead of just explaining to the room full of 1st graders that the "g" sounds different with it's all alone and surrounded by vowels.

Note - I was attending a public school in rural Kentucky at the time which had about two hundred fifty students (grades 1 - 12) in one building, only one of whom was black and he was in high school so it's not like the teacher was putting on a show for his benefit. I guess that was her idea of being progressive.

alright on another note...on topic but not...question directed towards King...exactly what did you hope to accomplish in interviewing a white person on racism???

Lāā said...

D you had to bring Arson out, didn't you...

MZPEACH said...

Ttd I think that was rude of you to go on her blog and look for that. I appreciated Goddess participation in the interview and that was unneccessary. Really when Ddot brought it up, I thought it was irrelevant. And he seemed as if he was starting to pick for dirt.

What is wrong with Goddess interview? Are we all made that she didn't spill any "juicy gossip". I have read Goddess blog and seems to be a nice indivdual. Everyone wasn't raise to hate black people. I read her interview and was informed of that. I don't believe that interview was sugarcoated. You wanted her opinion, bam you got it. If you wanted something rauchier maybe you should have interviewed Grant. Or maybe you should have reached a little deeper. Goddess has been hurt by blacks before, maybe you should have inquired about that. But again I appreciate Goddess perspective.
Good interview Ddot, can't wait to read part two.

TTD said...

GP.. i already stated that i didn't go on there looking for anything to make her look bad.. and i quote: "i actually wasn't looking for something to make her look bad.. i just went to her blog b/c everyone was taking forever to comment! I read that line.. and was like, "didn't she just say.." and that changed my opinion of the post.. cause as you can see from the 1st comment.. i DID like it"

i thought the STUPID subject was dead??

MZPEACH said...

I never said that you didn't like the post. Anyway, I didn't partake in the discussion regarding her use of the word stupid. But her using the word stupid in one of her post's doesn't change my view of her or what I have gotten out of the interview.

Rell said...

sorry DDOT won't happen again, one time thing.

TTD said...

eddie.. i find that crazy too! i went to school in PA (York) racism is sooo evident there.. but when i went to visit my friend in Charlotte.. people were so nice.. but you cant make that a blanket statement b/c not all of the northern states have % racism present & not all southern states are racism-free.. but i feel where ur coming from

chele said...

The interview was fine. I wasn't looking for anything juicier. While I don't believe that ALL white people hate Black people, I do believe that we all have a little more prejudice in us than we admit. Her responses sounded as though she didn't have any at all. Maybe she doesn't. I don't know. It's a hard topic to discuss in a comment section.

My best friend for the last 25 years is a white man. I trust him with my life. He is my son's godfather and we were in each other's weddings. But that doesn't mean that I embrace all things white. Truthfully, I feed most white people with a very long handled spoon. I don't think I'm a racist ... I'm just careful.

My point is ... hell I don't know. The answers were what I would expect from a white person commenting on a predominantly Black blog. No offense to Goddess ... I'm sure she's a lovely person.

Ddot the King said...

Sorry I've not been around. I'll try to catch up!

Ddot the King said...

Kween what I was hoping to accomplish was dialogue about race between all different types of people and to maybe show that we all have prejudices even if we aren't aware of them. It seems to be going just as planned.

Ddot the King said...

I know I'm late but GP what did you mean I was picking for dirt? I was trying to get a point across. I know Godess is not a KKK member so I wasn't trying to get her to say that she was. But from our conversations I know that a lot of her views(maybe none in this part of the interview) might rub some people the wrong way. I was only trying to get her to see that sometimes the same word has different meanings.

chele said...

Goddess: I've had a few that I wanted to curse out too ... trust.

Ddot the King said...

Oh and one other thing I was trying to accomplish Kween was to see how many lurkers I could get to comment. I think I did pretty good with that too. LOL

TTD said...

I understand what you are saying Ddot. But then again Goddess made a good point. People like to throw words around as terms of endearment, but in reality you are using that word and accepting the negative connotations that are associated with that word.

Kween I feel as though African Americans shouldn't use the word because we are obviously sending ambiguous messages to people of different races. I do not want a white person saying the word around me and I do not want to them to think that is okay to refer to blacks as Niggas. It is no reason for it to be in our vocabulary if people are going to use our use of it, to justifies theirs.

Ttd, girl i just stopped using that word in October. It's hard, especially when you get around your friends. But let me tell you it is extremely difficult for me not to use the word nigga when I rap (freestyle) too. It just flows so well. But I am working on it.

TTD said...

Drama Kween said...

Goddess, honestly, that was her dumbness for getting senstive thinking it a step above what you meant...but you know sometimes people need to stop reading too much into things, everything ain't always a racial issue...and as far as that slavery convo they had...i would've said this to them Nigga you crazy... Drama Kween said...

that's why everyone should go to church, a bunch of good role models...j/k...cuz i just hear a possible rumor that Hezekiah Walker is a DL brotha (i pray it ain't so)...but as far as the role model thing...though they should not be glamourized as role models, celebrities in general should be more conscious for the kids...not just rappers...cuz i am tired of hearing about nick and jessica's divorce...but look at the way celebs jump in and out of marriages, that's not a good role to portray...

Drama Kween said...

exactly my point...we are talking about race...so WE tend to think about Hip Hop first in talking about role models??? Inner city kids relate to more that just Hip Hop...truth be told they just relate to the Media in general as a whole...not just rappers, but what they see on tv...

TTD said...

but not all rappers are black...

Ddot the King said...

Nobody has anything to say to that? is that because it's obvious all rappers aren't black or because you all are in shock because you just realized there are asian rappers? let The King know. LOL

You're right a lot of africans are prejudiced against American in general but especially African-Americans. They always seem to like me and gravitate to me whenever I work around them. I think it's because they think I'm more pure. But they think we are lazy and shiftless and that we don't care about the world around us. I was having this conversation earlier with my coworker from Cameroon.

To DDOT,

Many africans are jealous of black Americans because we were born here in America a great country. And some africans don't consider mulatto blacks who are lightskinned also. These africans feel inferior to certain types of lightskin blacks and they feel infeior to whites not all africans but some.

I believe that Malcolm X believed in separate but equal. In the system of segregation, blacks had separate facilities that were not up to par with the white facilities.

F*ck and fudge don't compare to nigga and nigger. Neither does the use of stupid. Nigger/Nigga is such a charged word. There is not another like it in the English language. You will not come across another word that sparks such emotion and has that much hate written into it. NOT ONE.

With all of that said, I don't condone the use of "nigga" among black folks. What I really mean to say is that I don't make excuses and try to explain why it's okay for black folks to say nigga v. whites saying nigger. YES I use the word. I never say nigga as a term of endearment. When I call someone a nigga, I say it in anger and annoyance. In theory, that's no different than if a white person were to say it, but let's be honest; black folks are not gonna be quick to fight me just because I call them niggas. I would not be as moved if a black person called me a nigga than a white person were to say it. Black men address me in the "what up gurl...how you doooooin'" manner all the time. I get annoyed, but nothing pisses me off more than when a white dude says it. I'll be the first to admit that these types of things sting more for me when they're coming from white people. No, I don't automatically suspect that every white person I pass is racist. Nor do I live my life in "the man is trying to keep a sistah down" mode, but having been a victim a racism, it will always piss me off MORE when a non-black person makes a racist comment to me.

Now, I hear black people use nigga all the time with no harmful intent. I don't really have a problem with it. They can call each other whatever they want. If none of them are complaining then I definitely don't have anything to say. I remember when I was in middle school and one of my black friends was called a nigger by one of her white friends. I was completely outraged when I heard ol' girl say "nigger", but according to my friend, the two of them had a habbit of calling each other nigger and cracker. It was just a joke between them. So now, if she wasn't making a big fuss about it, then I didn't have anything to say.

Consider this:

Why is it that when J. Lo said the word "nigga" in a song that Ja Rule wrote, people came down on her like crazy? Fat Joe used the word "nigga" in a song that he wrote, and nobody said boo about it.

Do you think that people would notice if Paul Wall said the word nigga. Likely not. What about Eminem? You better believe it!

It's not just about race it's about culture. Now, somebody can start an argument about that, but I'm gonna leave it alone...maybe.

Now, let me close by saying this. My answer to every white person who has a complaint about blacks using the word is this: why would you complain about something like that??? Why would you even want to take part in the use of the word? If you have chosen not to use it, then stick to your choice and move on.

Great post, D. Thanks for participating Goddess.

Grace and Peace.

Hello, my name is Tracy and i am white. (get it? like AA) I just arrived to this discussion and found it very interesting. Just thought maybe you would like another white person's thoughts. So here are my thoughts, and I'll try to be as honest as I can.

On using the word nigger. I do not use it ever, I don't think i have ever said it out of my mouth unless I was quoting someone else. I do feel uneasy with black people calling each other nigga, but I kind of figure that its a cultural thing and as long as you feel comfortable with it, whatever. It doesn't affect me. To be frank, the qualm that I have is that it seems hypocrytical to take offense at white people using a word when you use it yourself. The negative part of the word is its history and it carried that history with it whenever it is used.

I don't think of myself as prejudiced. I enjoy people, meeting new and different people and judge people individually. That being said, I have never lived in an area where there was a large black population. I have not had many black friends. I think people are very limited by their experiences, myself included.

Now no one has compared racism to any other kinds of prejudice on this discussion. I think that prejudice against blacks in America, while still in existance of course, is on the whole considered very negative by the general public. However, prejudice against other subgroups is not. For instance hispanics (they are taking our jobs!), fat people (slovenly!, lazy!, they did it to themselves!) handicapped (pitied, assumed to be of limited intelligence or their lives not worth living). These are more socially acceptable forms of prejudice today. What do you guys think of the comparison? Do you have any of these prejudices yourself?

I just saw the movie Crash the other night. Was any of this discussion inspired by that movie? What did anyone else think of it? I really enjoyed it. At first I thought it was really heavy-handed and manipulative with the plot. But in the last half of the movie was the payoff of all the moments of realization that people had about themselves, and that was worth it.

my husband has asked me not to say nigga...i oblige only because he is my husband and i don't want to hear his mouth. i asked him why he feels so strongly about it whenits has nothing to do with him. he said because it is such a hateful word and he doesn't like it used. now i'm not stupid and i KNOW he has used it in the past. and i'm gonna tell you right now. and this is for the white folk...you may say you are not prejudice and that you love everybody and that you have nothing against black folk. but you have at some point in your life used nigga and meant in a hateful way. i'm sorry but that is the truth. you can sit here and pretend and say you have never used it but at some point in your life a black person has done something to make you say it. and you may not even remember that you said because it was so small in insignificant but you said. be honset here... were not stupid. i have never mean a white person that can say they never said. friend or foe INCLUDING my WHITE husband.

Carmell said...

typos agin..my apologies... i'm rushing to get the kids off to school!

Tracy said...

Koolbreeze,

I'm sorry that you believe that. As I said, we are all affected by our own experiences. I'm sorry that you have known so many white people to say such a mean thing that you believe that we all must have said it at some time. That belief is a choice that you have made, and it affects the way that you interpret any white person's statements.

I do not, have not, really. If someone does something to me, whatever color they are, the reaction that goes through my head is based on what the person did, not who they are. That was mean, or that was selfish or etc. My belief is that we are all individuals. No one's actions can be attributed to their race. That belief shapes my attitude and that is why I don't respond that way.

well damn i sure did miss alot,
but ill put in my 2 cents on the word nicca anyway......i think language is funny anyway....i mean a chair could have been blue, if thats what the ppl that created spoken language wanted it to be, we put our own meanings to the word nigga (nicca) how ever you want to spell it...yes its strange that many blk ppl use the word like its going out of style, but will slap the shit out of a white person for saying it....its the history that was inbreaded in the word, that no matter what wont go away, so goddess i wont advise you or any other white person to say that word around blk ppl they know or dont know, many will just view it as disrepect.....as i see it, its just a word i dont give power to, as long as i dont give it power, no one can hold it over my head........

Carmell said...

all i'm saying is i would rather hear a white person admit that they have said in they past or at one time or another rather than try and put it like they have never said. even if you say it as repeating what someone says, typing it, writing it, demeaning, or friendly (not that that will happen much) you have said it. it may not be verbal but i came from you. you felt it was ok to type nigga rather than type it the n-word so how is that any different from saying? like Chocolate said i don't give it power. i have had white friends say it around me as we black folk say it and i didn't care. its just a word to me. i don't say it around my husband but i do say it. i don't understand why white folkhave to question why they can't say it and don't understand why. you know what it means just like we do...whats not to understand? if you want to say it then say it but be prepared for a beat down. cause if you say it in the pressence of someone who takes offense to it then you better watch out. so rather than question why you can't say it and be worried if you said it will you get your behind kicked just don't say it. to be on the safe side!

In response to Koolbreeze,

Let me be clear. I don't wonder at all WHY I can't say it. I don't have any desire to say it. Even in a discussion like this, i feel uncomfortable typing it.

You said that since I typed it and have quoted other people saying it, that is the same. But in your post you specifically said

"but you have at some point in your life used nigga and meant in a hateful way. At some point in your life a black person has done something to make you say it. and you may not even remember that you said because it was so small in insignificant but you said."

So you seem to see that there is a difference between discussing the word here and saying it in a hateful way.

The thing that bothers me is this belief that all white people have some secret hatred for or prejudice against black people.

Oh, you also said that we claim to love everybody, etc. Sorry if I sound like that. I certainly don't like every body that I meet. I think some people are real jerks. But I don't dislike people because of the color of their skin.

Carmell said...

i never said all white people have a secret hatred for blacks. i said that EVERYBODY has prejudice. whether it is out right or just in comments. i can mumble "white people" under my breathe when i see a white person or MY HUSBAND do something that you see white folk do on the the regular that may not be the smartest thing for them to so . does that mean i hate white people? if so i guess i hate my husband and my children then huh?
i didn't said anyone in particular. but when i hear white folk profess their hatrad for the word nigga/er they ALWAYS say i don't hate anyone i love everyone. now that is in my experiance. its like rather than be bruitally honset and tell the truth they try and sugar coat it. i could careless if you hate/dislike anyone. its your life. do what you want. thats not what i'm saying. but whatever this is getting old.

ddot: I don't use the N word. But I am white. Predictably white.

SlimDuck said...

Hey ddot,

I stopped by to see what's up on your site. I like the topic.

I'm not white, I'm more of a peach color. Fact is your not black either, your more brown. Don't get me wrong. I'm not ignorant enough not to realize that your culture and upbringing are different from mine. I'm not politically correct, nor do I have a desire to be. I'm also not racist.

Consider this statement:

There are some "white" folks that are pompous ignorant jerks with no regard for anyone but themselves.

OK, now consider this:

In that statement change out the word "white" with any other race, religion, gender, or other group you wish. They are all true statements.

I definately have my own opinions of people, but I'm not any better than anyone else. The fact is, if I have an opinion about you or anyone else, I would hope that it is because how you communicate both with words and with actions. That being said, if I don't like someone, it's probably because they are a pompous ignorant jerk with no regard for anyone but themself.
